At Spitfire Speed Shop, we pride ourselves on creating custom motorcycles that merge retro charm with classic design. Our latest project, the Quattuor Pearl Honda CB400 Four, is no exception.
Redefining the cafe racer ethos, blending craftsmanship with cutting-edge design elements. Built from the ground up, this bike is more than a ride—it's a statement. Here's a closer look at our process to creating the Quattuor Pearl...
From the Inside Out: A Complete Engine Rebuild
We spared no detail in revitalizing the CB400 Four engine, undergoing a full rebuild, receiving a vapor blast treatment for a pristine finish. To elevate its aesthetic, we coated the engine covers in Cerakote Burnt Bronze, perfectly blending rugged durability with refined style. Paired with Keihin CR flat side carbs, this setup ensures unparalleled performance, responsiveness, and throttle precision.
A Wheelset Built for Speed and Style
We equipped the Quattuor Pearl with FMX650 wheels, strengthened with stainless steel respoked spokes and polished hubs. This robust setup not only enhances durability but also gives the bike a timeless appeal. Whether you're on city streets or carving corners on open roads, this wheel configuration provides a great balance of stability and agility.
Precision Handling with WP KTM RC390 Front Forks
The front end is where form meets function. The Quattuor Pearl is fitted with WP KTM RC390 forks, combined with a custom-built billet yoke, giving you unmatched handling and control. We've also added a custom-made headlight bracket and a front mudguard, both treated with Cerakote for a sleek, durable finish. To ensure stopping power matches its performance, the front caliper was Cerakoted to match the overall aesthetic.
Braking and Control
Safety and precision are critical, so we outfitted the Quattuor Pearl with HEL brake lines and an ISR clutch/master cylinder. These components are complemented by a Domino quick-action throttle and grips, paired with a Dyna ignition system for a seamless connection between rider and machine. Renthal bars round off the controls, providing a firm yet comfortable grip for hours of effortless riding.
Custom Exhaust and Rear Swingarm for a Unique Edge
The bespoke 4-2 exhaust system not only amplifies the CB400 Four’s performance but gives it a signature growl that turns heads. We’ve also modified the CB500 swingarm to enhance its structural integrity and aesthetic appeal. The rear features a Brembo caliper and master cylinder, mounted on a custom-designed caliper mount and torsion bar for a sleek, functional finish.
Comfort Meets Functionality: Suspension and Seating
We opted for YSS rear shocks to ensure a smooth ride while maintaining the cafe racer aesthetic. A custom-made rear mudguard and modified front sprocket further enhance its functionality. The frame has been modified with a loop for an LED rear light strip, integrated into the bespoke seat. Topped off with a custom seat pad, the Quattuor Pearl offers both comfort and style.
The Finishing Touches: Powder Coat and Cerakote Mastery
The visual appeal of the Quattuor Pearl is unmatched, thanks to its attention to detail:
- Frame: Powder-coated in metallic silver for a timeless shine.
- Rims: Satin black powder coat to accentuate the classic aesthetic.
- Engine Covers and Yokes: Finished in Burnt Bronze Cerakote and Satin Black Cerakote, adding layers of depth and durability.
- Hangers and Other Components: Coated in satin black Cerakote to maintain cohesion in the bike’s overall design.
The Quattuor Pearl Honda CB400 Four is more than a motorcycle; it’s a one of kind bike, a hybrid between performance, and design. At Spitfire Speed Shop, we believe in honoring the legacy of classic motorcycles while pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. The Quattuor Pearl is a celebration of that ethos—a cafe racer that embodies retro spirit with a modern twist.
